 Ronnie and Debbie have three adult sons who are avid hunters. They left a coaching career and moved to Hanston, Kansas in 1978 from Robert Lee, Texas. Ronnie became the feedlot manager for Ruff Farms, Inc. He is a 5th generation farmer continuing the Ruff legacy of farming in Hodgeman County. He wanted to provide a hunting service for years but just did not have the time and right manpower to do it right. This project is a family effort. We want to enjoy the work as much as our hunters enjoy the hunt. We have good dogs and we have many nice areas for hunting. Our adult sons train Pointers, Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Setters. We have what you need for a great hunt.
We are located in southwest Kansas in the Buckner Valley. This valley is about two miles wide and runs for 40 miles. We have great soil and irrigated crops along the creek areas so it makes for a nice hunting experience with lots of game. The valley is not typical southwest Kansas. (In other words, it doesn't look like a pancake!) Our hunting areas along the wooded creeks are enhanced by game plots that are planted the creek flats. These flats make excellent hunting areas. We also hunt our upland areas.
We offer a complete service. Groups can fly into Dodge City Regional and come by car, 40 miles, or there is small airport at Jetmore, Kansas just 11 miles west of Hanston. Our lodge 5 miles south of the Ruff home. It is out in the country, on a good county road—very peaceful. It is rustic, but very nice, and very quiet. The house has three levels, so space is not a problem. Most guys like to ruff-it, but they also like running water and central heat and air. We provide both. There are no hidden costs. We provide everything except your gun, clothing, and ammunition. There is an area at the Lodge for clay shooting for those who want to practice in the evenings. The meals are home-cooked and served all-you-can-eat family style. The ladies have a lot of experience feeding hungry harvest crews. They know how to take care of large groups with lots of home cooking. We build all of our meals around beef—we have 4,000 head of reputation fat cattle in our feed yard—we guarantee— hunters will eat good!
We have a very nice family and intend to treat our guests like family. When you are here you will be the only group here and will receive all our attention. We intend for this to be an experience that hunters will want to try again and again. We are a Safety-First hunting service.
